Com origens nas doutrinas anti-restauro do século XIX, o conceito de intervenção mínima afirmou-se, na segunda metade do século XX, como um valor fundamental para a conservação e a reabilitação do património construído. No campo específico dos espaços dedicados à cultura contemporânea, este princípio tem adquirido especial relevância, ao viabilizar programas necessariamente abertos e favoráveis à mudança, centrados na ideia de “work in progress”. A partir da observação de um conjunto representativo de centros de criação contemporânea, com destaque para três casos em Lisboa, o presente artigo pretende discutir o contributo destes projectos para uma actualização de conceitos e práticas. Para além das motivações conceptuais inerentes à procura de soluções arquitectónicas transitórias, versáteis e reversíveis, constata-se que, em alguns destes projectos, a intervenção mínima e a valorização estética da ruína surgem também como resposta a contingências económicas e institucionais. Neste cenário, colocase a seguinte questão: será a intervenção mínima o inevitável reflexo de um momento de crise e incertezas? With origins in the anti-restoration doctrines of the 19th century, the concept of minimal intervention became, in the second half of the 20th century, a fundamental value for the conservation and rehabilitation of built heritage. Within the specific field of spaces dedicated to contemporary creation this principle has acquired special relevance, as it facilitates programmes which are necessarily open and favourable to change, based in the idea of “work in progress”. From the observation of a representative set of centres for contemporary creation, focusing on three cases in Lisbon, this paper aims at discussing the contribution of these projects for the update of concepts and practices regarding the renovation of built heritage. Besides the conceptual motivations associated to the search of transitory, versatile and reversible architectonic solutions, in some of these projects minimal intervention and the aesthetic value of ruins also appear as a response to economic and institutional constraints. In this scenario, the following question arises: is minimal intervention the inevitable reflection of a time crisis and uncertainty?
