This work makes a state point of the current knowledge about the relations between slaves and masters, in the Azores, between the 16th and 18th centuries. Based essentially on wills, inventories and parish registers, it presents aspects of the life forms and sociability of a domestic island slavery, which is numeric unrepresentative in the overall population.
