Informar, administrar, conservar prova: circuitos e significados da correspondência no Arquivo Colonial (Direção-Geral do Ultramar, 1835-1910)

O século XIX testemunhou o aprofundamento da cultura burocrática enquanto consequência do processo de construção do Estado Moderno. Os arquivos da Administração Pública Portuguesa resultantes apresentam-se como evidências de uma vivência de profunda instabilidade política, económica e social. O que inevitavelmente condicionou a política arquivística, da época, mas que se tornou no lastro desta cultura burocrática. O arquivo da Direção-Geral do Ultramar é um bom exemplo da relação entre prática administrativa e política arquivística. A exploração da evolução orgânica e funcional da Direção-Geral do Ultramar, e concomitantemente do seu arquivo, permitiram estudar a sua produção informacional. Na tese será analisada a correspondência da Direção-Geral do Ultramar com o intuito de aceder ao sistema de informação daquele organismo. Um estudo que possibilitou averiguar como fluía o seu sistema de informação explorando processos, autoridades e níveis de transmissão.
The XIX century witnessed the development of a bureaucratic culture as the result of the construction process of the Portuguese Modern State. Public administration archives composed through this century present themselves as evidences of an ambience of deep political, economic and social instability. Those inevitably conditioned the archival policy at the time and became the foundation of this bureaucratic culture. The archive of the Direção-Geral do Ultramar is a good example of the relationship between administrative practice and archival policy. The exploration of the organic and functional evolution of the Direção-Geral do Ultramar, and concomitantly of its archive, allowed to study its informational production. This thesis analyses the correspondence of the Direção-Geral do Ultramar intending to access its information system. A study that allowed to verify how that information system flowed, exploring processes, authorities and levels of transmission.
