RESUMO - A medição da qualidade de vida relacionada com a saúde
é um assunto que se encontra na ordem do dia. A sua
importância e actualidade justificam este artigo, em que
são apresentadas as utilidades dos estados de saúde, com
uma breve referência aos métodos de medição das utilidades,
os Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALYs), que captam
numa única medida os ganhos em quantidade e em qualidade
de vida, e um instrumento genérico de avaliação dos
estados de saúde que permite o cálculo dos valores de utilidade
que os indivíduos atribuem aos estados de saúde, o
EuroQol.
ABSTRACT - Nowadays the measurement of health related quality of life is an issue of the utmost importance and relevance and the present article reflects it. Health state utilities, with a brief mention of the methods of measurement of those utilities, are presented as well as the Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) that capture, in a single measure, gains in quantity and quality of life, and a generic instrument for the evaluation of states of health, which allows calculation of the utilities attributed by individuals to different states of health: the EuroQol.
