RESUMO - O conhecimento do efeito dos estilos de vida sobre o estado
de saúde individual é um elemento base relevante para o
correcto estabelecimento de políticas na área da saúde.
Procurou-se, com base no Inquérito Nacional de Saúde
1998/99, realizar uma primeira exploração do efeito de
decisões de comportamento individual sobre o estado de
saúde, seguindo para o efeito a metodologia de Kenkel
(1995). Os resultados encontrados são, na sua maioria,
concordantes com os obtidos para outros países. As aparentes
especificidades da realidade portuguesa, por pouco
naturais, devem motivar investigação futura sobre o tema.
ABSTRACT - The impact of lifestyle on the health status of each individual is an important piece of information for the setting of sound health policies. Based on the National Health Survey of 1998/ 99 we provide a first set of estimates for the individual health production function, based on the model of Kenkel (1995). This allows us to track down the impact of decisions over the lifestyle on the health stock. Overall, the results are in accordance with previous international studies. However, some of the apparent Portuguese specificities are not particularly convincing. Clearly, more research on the subject is warranted.
