On the afternoon of August 14, 1385, occurred the battle of Aljubarrota on the plateau of S. Jorge. An Anglo-Portuguese host had faced a powerful Franco-Castilian coalition for its claim to the Portuguese crown, having achieved, in the end, a victory. During the following centuries the echoes of Aljubarrota maintain the event live inside of the Portuguese´s memory. The study of this battle was for a long time confined to theoretical reconstitutions based only on documentary sources. However, from the mid-twentieth century, when the first archeological intervention on the battlefield takes place, researchers acquired new elements for study (pits and moats). Since then, the resource to new methods and scientific equipment in the field has motivated new historical formalizations, with results closer to the reality of the battle. Following the same methodology applied so far in the battle field, it was proposed for a PhD dissertation in archeology, the continuity of the survey and archeological investigation in Aljubarrota. Considered that Portuguese host was arranged in two different locations on the battle day, a first place where both enemies just stand in vision and a second one where the confrontation take place, we chose to examine one of these positions. The previous archaeological work focused only on the second position, which belong the battlefield. Our work pretends to extend the archaeological work to the first battle position. This project attempts to achieved new interpretative elements that allow us to understand a tactical conception that involved two positions on the same terrain, each one planed for a purpose but both sharing the same objective: to obtain a victory in a battle.
