Autêntico guia prático para viajar, pois fornece preciosas informações geográficas e históricas acerca das regiões evocadas, o Livro do Conhecimento constitui um excelente exemplo de como um relato medieval de viagens imaginárias foi utilizado como fonte e apoio para deslocações reais. Na paisagem que representa, cujas fronteiras são em grande parte imaginadas, sobretudo quando se afasta do centro ordenador e seguro que constitui a Europa ocidental, o anónimo autor deste singular documento tende sempre a individualizar os poderes dominantes e respectivos territórios, oferecendo uma concepção do mundo físico que podemos imaginar representativa do homem ibérico da viragem do século XIV para a centúria de Quatrocentos. O Livro do Conhecimento revela, afinal, como a sociedade hispânica da Baixa Idade Média já concebia o mundo conhecido como um espaço capaz de ser geográfica e politicamente inventariado, e, nessa medida, passível de ser descrito e itinerado. In the landscape it represents, whose borders are largely imagined, especially when away from the ordering and secure center that is Western Europe, the anonymous author of this singular document always tends to individualize the dominant powers and their territories, offering a conception of the physical world than we can imagine representative of the Iberian man of the 14th and 15th centuries. The Book of Knowledge reveals, after all, how the Hispanic Society of the late Middle Ages already conceived the known world as a space able to be geographically and politically inventoried, and therefore able to be described and traveled.
