Os autores estudaram os resultados da coloração para os polissacáridos de Hotchkiss, nas culturas da medula óssea de 2 doentes do sono, tendo verificado que o comportamento desta coloração nos fragmentos da medula óssea recolhidos antes e ao fim de 24, 48 e 60 horas de cultura, diferem dos que Sacchetti e Bianchini descreveram na púrpura trombopénica, sobrepondo-se antes aos dos megacariocitos das medulas normais ou de medulas de trombopatias não trombopénicas.
The authors studied the results of Hotchkiss polysacharide stain after having cultivated the bone marrow of 2 sleeping-sickness patients. ln the bone marrow fragments observed before and after 24, 48 and 60 hours of incubation, the behaviour of the stained megakaryocytes does not agree with Sacchetti and Bianchinis description of the megakaryocytes of thrombopenic purpura cases, rather staining like megakaryocytes from normal subjects, or from subjects with non thrombopenic thrombopathies.
