A administração interna do hospital indígena, privado da «Sisal» A.G. em Muaguide, exige muito trabalho e paciência para satisfazer as múltiplas exigências de doentes com costumes e tradições diferentes.
O médico e o pessoal de enfermagem têm de estar de serviço, dia e noite, para atender os doentes que se apresentam no hospital a qualquer hora, tendo frequentemente de enviar transporte, independentemente da hora ou do local, não só para os trabalhadores, mas também para as suas famílias e estrangeiros que precisam de ajuda urgente.
Para verificar o estado satisfatório da capacidade dos serviços prestados aos trabalhadores da plantação, é feita uma inspeção sanitária diária dos trabalhadores quando regressam do serviço e, para a profilaxia contra parasitas e doenças parasitárias, são feitas desinfestações semanais com Pestrol e, a cada trimestre, as cabanas dos acampamentos são branqueadas com D.D.T., utilizando métodos modernos.
Os Serviços de Saúde da Companhia sempre colaboraram com o pessoal da Missão de Combate às Tripanossomíases na vigilância da doença do sono e com as autoridades administrativas nos procedimentos judiciais. Seguiram-se os regulamentos de Saúde e Higiene Públicas e cumpriram-se os deveres de humanidade, ajudando, sem reservas nem distinções, todos aqueles que pediam socorro.
No que diz respeito aos acidentes de trabalho, sou da opinião de que a especialização dos trabalhadores indígenas em determinados serviços evita uma série de acidentes que se devem à distração e à negligência destes e, por vezes, às manias de exibicionismo a que os indígenas são frequentemente sujeitos.
Os Serviços de Saúde desta empresa foram organizados de acordo com os Serviços de Saúde do Estado e forneceram todos os dados para a Estatística Geral da Província.
The internal administration of the Hospital of the Natives, a private hospital of the «SISAL» A. G. in Muaguide, demands a hard work and a lot of patience to give satisfaction to the many exigences_ of patients of different habits and customs. The physician and the nurses have to remain in the service, for day and night, to help the patients who appear at any time. Frequently it is need to send an ambulancy without considering the time or the place, not only for the labourers but also for their families and strangers who need an emergency assistance. ln order to verify the satisfactory state of capacity for the service of the labourers or the plantation a daily health inspection is preromed when they come back from their service, and weekly desinfections and quarterly D.D.T. sprays by the new procedures are made ia their thatched houses for the prophylaxis of the parasites and of the parasitic diseases. The Public Health Services of this Company have ever co-operated with the staff of the Missão de Combate às Triponosomiases (Trypanosomiasis Control Survey) in the sleeping sickness control and with the Administrative authorities in judicial matters. lt has also fulfilled the Regulation of Public Health 20d Hygeine, as well as the human duties helping whoever applies to its help. ln the opinion of the author a great many occupational accidents may be avoid if the labourers were specialised in certain services. Thus it maybe avoid accidents which are due to distraction or carelessness and sometimes to the habit the natives have of showing off. The Public Health Services of this Company were organized in the sarne way of the Public Health Services of the State and have supplied ali the data for thte General Statistics of the territory.
