Os congressos do Partido Republicano Português (PRP), foram um conjunto de reuniões magnas que se foram sucedendo durante os vinte e oito anos da existência daquela organização política, desde 1883 até à sua total fragmentação em 1911, e que nunca foram objeto de uma investigação sistematizada.
Esta investigação pretende demonstrar que o impulso para a formação do Partido Republicano Português, foi dado em Coimbra no início de 1860, na sequência de ações planificadas e executadas por Joaquim Teófilo Fernandes Braga tendo como ponto mais alto, em 1880, por sua iniciativa, as comemorações do tricentenário da morte de Luís de Camões.
Com a pesquisa dos congressos realizados durante a existência do Partido Republicano, procuraremos compreender a organização interna do partido, a evolução das sucessivas leis orgânicas, cada vez mais centralizadoras, e a razão dessa evolução. Igualmente tencionamos construir uma imagem, da vida do Partido Republicano, elencando os principais nomes que acompanharam Teófilo Braga até 1911, dos processos de luta adotados, das ações de propaganda e das inovadoras técnicas usadas pelos deputados republicanos para desequilibrar o funcionamento do parlamento e por vezes mesmo para o bloquear.
The congresses of the Portuguese Republican Party (PRP) were a series of major meetings that took place over the twenty-eight years of the political organisation's existence, from 1883 until its total fragmentation in 1911, and which have never been the subject of systematic research. This research aims to show that the impetus for the formation of the PRP was given in Coimbra in the early 1860s, following actions planned and carried out by Joaquim Teófilo Fernandes Braga, the highlight of which was the commemorations of the tercentenary of the death of Luís de Camões in 1880, on his initiative. By researching the congresses held during the Republican Party's existence, we will try to understand the party's internal organisation, the evolution of the successive organic laws, which were increasingly centralising, and the reason for this evolution. We also intend to build up a picture of the life of the Republican Party, listing the main names who accompanied Teófilo Braga until 1911, the processes of struggle adopted, the propaganda actions and the innovative techniques used by Republican deputies to unbalance the workings of parliament and sometimes even to block it.
