Resumo(s)
The scientific relations between Brazil and Portugal intensified in the 18th century, with results expressed in the Portuguese medical approach in dialogue with indigenous medical practices. In this sense, this work aims to study the circulation of Portuguese medical-surgical knowledge in 18th-century Brazil, based on documents related to surgeons that exemplify the exchange of knowledge between Brazil and Portugal at that time. Thus, the objective is to compare the practical utility items needed by surgeons, as referenced in the list of apothecary items found in a handwritten document dated 1780, located in the Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino (AHU), titled On the storage of gunpowder and other equipment sent from the Kingdom, aboard the charrua "Águia", and apothecary chests and surgical instruments needed for the Boundary Demarcation Expedition in the captaincy of Rio Negro. In this manuscript, 140 products were identified as sent from Portugal to Portuguese America for use in medical-surgical practice, which we will analyze alongside Erário Mineral, a medical-surgical treatise by the surgeon Luís Gomes Ferreira, written in Portuguese, detailing the surgeon's practical experience in Brazilian lands, published in 1735.
