Background Dementia presents significant challenges not only to those diagnosed but also to the informal caregivers who provide daily support. In Portugal, there has been limited research specifically addressing the needs and perceptions of these caregivers. This study seeks to fill that gap by providing an in-depth look into the experiences of informal caregivers of people with dementia (PwD) in Portugal, with the goal of understanding their perceptions, challenges, and needs. The findings aim to guide policy and support services in better addressing the needs of this vital group.
