Percepções do eu - as plataformas de streaming como contra-esferas das narrativas transgénero

Abstract

Desde 2014, quando a revista TIME afirmou que se vivia um “Transgender Tipping Point”, depois da atriz Laverne Cox ter tido um papel revolucionário na série Orange Is The New Black, muito mudou. As plataformas de streaming tiveram um crescimento assinalável e mais séries com personagens trans* interpretadas por pessoas trans* foram surgindo. Tendo como caso de estudo a série norte-americana da HBO Euphoria, cuja personagem Jules se tornou popular a nível internacional, também em Portugal, esta dissertação procura perceber o impacto que a representatividade e as narrativas que estejam para lá do “Fator Trans” podem ter nos espectadores. Ao mesmo tempo, procura pistas para o futuro com profissionais trans* que trabalhem no cinema e/ou na televisão em Portugal.

Since 2014, when TIME magazine proclaimed a “Transgender Tipping Point”, after Laverne Cox’s revolutionary role in the tv series Orange Is The New Black, a lot has changed. Streaming platforms had a significant growth and more tv series with trans* characters played by trans* people appeared. With the American HBO series Euphoria as a case study, whose character Jules has become popular in an international level, also in Portugal, this dissertation aims to understand the impact that representativity and narratives that go beyond the “Trans Factor” can have on audiences. Simultaneously, it seeks clues for the future with trans* professionals working in film and/or television in Portugal.
