The history of tea in Portugal is inextricably linked to the figure of Catherine of Braganza (1638-1705). The consumption of this drink was one of the most distinctive features of the Queen of England. The first part of this article examines the primary sources that historiography has tended to use in order to discuss the question of the introduction of tea into Stuart England. It will then look at the culture of agasalho in Portugal and national eating and drinking habits. Finally, based on assorted information, it will explain how tea became associated with the Queen of England, and examine its significance in her daily life. Em Portugal, quando se analisa a história do chá, associa-se de imediato à figura de D. Catarina de Bragança (1638-1705), pois o seu consumo parece ter sido uma das características mais diferenciadoras da história da Rainha de Inglaterra. Na primeira parte do texto iremos analisar quais as fontes primárias em que se baseia a historiografia para veicular a questão da introdução do chá em Inglaterra no tempo dos Stuart. De seguida, abordaremos a cultura de agasalho em Portugal e os hábitos alimentares. Por fim, suportados em documentação variada, explicaremos a forma como se foi associando o chá à Rainha de Inglaterra e a importância que a bebida adquiriu no seu quotidiano.
