O convento de São Francisco de Lisboa assumiu, desde a sua fundação, um papel de importância crescente na vida desta cidade, tanto na esfera religiosa e política como na económica e social. Este trabalho pretende analisar com maior detalhe o quotidiano desta instituição religiosa, à luz de um conjunto cerâmico proveniente de uma cisterna deste convento, convertida posteriormente em lixeira. A partir do estudo de mais de 4000 fragmentos de cerâmica vidrada, faiança portuguesa e porcelana chinesa, far-se-á uma aproximação às suas funcionalidades e utilizações neste ambiente conventual. Nesta reconstrução histórica, os objectos arqueológicos serão continuamente acompanhados por documentação coeva, contribuindo de igual forma para um quadro mais completo da vida conventual em Portugal, no período moderno The convent of São Francisco de Lisboa [Saint Francis of Lisbon] took, since its foundation, an increasingly important role in the religious and politic sphere, but also in the social and economic aspects of this town’s life. This study intends to analyse with further detail the daily life in this religious institution, having as a starting point an assemblage of ceramics recovered from one of the convent’s cisterns, later transformed into a dumpsite. From the analysis of more than 4000 fragments of glazed ceramic, Portuguese faience and Chinese porcelain, we will try an approach to its functions and uses in this particular environment. In this historical reconstruction, the archaeological objects will be continuously complemented by contemporary documentation, contributing for a more complete depiction of the convent life in the early modern Portugal.
