A exposição ocupacional ao ruído em Portugal

RESUMO - A exposição ao ruído constitui um dos mais importantes
riscos ocupacionais em meio industrial. No entanto, constata-
se que o registo dos dados, a nível nacional, sobre a
exposição ocupacional ao ruído nunca terá sido efectuado
de forma estruturada. Este artigo aborda os principais
aspectos relacionados com a exposição ocupacional ao
ruído, tais como as características dessa exposição, os programas
de conservação da audição nas empresas e a evolução
legislativa, sendo ainda apresentada uma estimativa
do número de pessoas expostas no nosso país. Da análise
efectuada é possível retirar algumas conclusões, destacando-
se o grande número de trabalhadores, presumivelmente,
expostos a níveis de pressão sonora elevados e a
necessidade de se diversificar o tipo de soluções adoptadas,
tendo em vista prevenir eventuais perdas auditivas. São
igualmente referidos alguns aspectos relativos às necessidades
de investigação futura e de desenvolvimento de instrumentos
de avaliação e análise mais eficazes, visando
diminuir, ou mesmo eliminar, a exposição ocupacional ao
ruído e, consequentemente, melhorar a qualidade de vida
dos trabalhadores.
ABSTRACT - Given its relevance, noise exposure is one of the main occupational risks in industrial environments. However, a structured survey about national occupational noise exposure was never made. This paper focus on the main aspects concerning noise occupational exposure, namely exposure characteristics, hearing conservation programs and the evolution of Portuguese legislation concerning noise exposure, presenting yet an estimation of the number of people exposed to occupational noise in Portugal. From this analysis, it is possible to draw some conclusions, namely the great number of workers, probably exposed to high noise levels and the need to adopt diversified measures in order to prevent hearing losses among workers. This paper also focus some aspects related to future research perspectives in this area and the need to develop more efficient assessment methods, in order to reduce, or even eliminate, occupational noise exposure and, therefore, improve the quality of life of workers in general
