dc.description.abstract	Objeto de múltiplas análises, o romance Emigrantes nunca foi submetido ao escrutínio da Ecologia Humana. O presente artigo ensaia essa perspetiva, aplicada ao cenário português ‒ capítulos I a VII da Primeira Parte, capítulos VI e VII da Segunda Parte e parte do Capítulo II desta ‒ pouco mais de um terço da extensão do romance. Propõe-se uma interpretação do protagonista Manuel da Bouça, sua decisão emigratória e seu desalentado regresso, focada no modelo socioeconómico do Vale de Ossela ao tempo da narrativa e na árdua relação que os camponeses mantinham com aquela terra e os recursos por ela oferecidos. (Adaptação de um subcapítulo da Tese de Doutoramento Terra Nativa: a Relação Eco-humana na Vida e na Obra de Ferreira de Castro, 2015). Ferreira de Castro’s Emigrantes was never studied from the point of view of Human Ecology. This paper essays such an approach, applied to the the novel’s Portuguese landscape set ‒ Part One, chapters I to VII; Part Two, chapters VI to VII and some pages of Chapter II ‒ longer than one trird of the whole text. We propose a new interpretation of the main character, Manuel da Bouça, his decision to emigrate and hopeless returning back home ‒ focused on the socioeconomic model of Ossela valley and the hard relation between peasants, their territory and its natural resources.	en
