A primeira viagem à volta do mundo é-nos dada a conhecer através da relação que o vicentino Antonio Pigafetta, embarcado na nau de Fernão de Magalhães, escreveu ao longo de muitos meses de navegação. Dos 26 italianos que integravam a tripulação do capitão português ao serviço de Castela, Antonio Pigafetta foi um dos dois que completaram a viagem de circum-navegação, regressando, passados três anos, ao porto espanhol de San Lúcar de Barrameda. O texto que aqui se apresenta visa sistematizar fontes conhecidas e investigações recentes de modo a desenhar o percurso vivencial do cavaleiro do mar oceano vicentino. The first voyage around the world was made known to us through the relationship that the Vincentian Antonio Pigafetta, embarked in the ship of Fernand Magellan, wrote over many months of sailing. Of the 26 Italians who were part of the Portuguese captain’s crew serving Castile, Antonio Pigafetta was one of two who completed the circumnavigation voyage, returning after three years to the Spanish port of San Lúcar de Barrameda. The text presented here aims to systematize known sources and recent investigations in order to draw the life course of the Vincentian knight of Ocean Sea.
