O estudo e a pesquisa dos antepassados do Homem no continente africano têm nos últimos anos tomado grande desenvolvimento e grande interesse mercê de notáveis e sucessivas descobertas. À iniciativa de investigadores africanos se deve a criação dos congressos panafricanos de pré-história, cuja primeira sessão teve lugar em 1947, no Kenya, em Nairobi, e ali assistiram 53 delegados de 24 países.
Os trabalhos foram divididos em três secções, abordando-se os problemas que podiam relacionar-se com a sua existência: a geologia, paleontologia e climatologia do meio ambiente, a paleontologia humana e a arqueologia pré-histórica.
The study and research of human ancestors on the African continent has undergone significant development and attracted considerable interest in recent years thanks to a series of remarkable discoveries. African researchers were responsible for initiating the Pan-African Prehistory Congresses, the first of which was held in 1947 in Nairobi, Kenya, and attended by 53 delegates from 24 countries. The work was divided into three sections, addressing issues that could be related to their existence: the geology, palaeontology and climatology of the environment, human palaeontology and prehistoric archaeology.
