Descreve-se uma nova especie de Haematopota {Diptera, Tabanidae) do «grupo tumidicornis», para a qual se propôs o nome de H. sofalensis n. sp.
Esta entidade, que constitui a primeira do referido grupo a ser assinalada em Moçambique, apresenta notórias parecenças com as espécies H. obscura Loew, 1857 e H. peusi Oldroyd, 1952, das quais se distingue, todavia, por determinado número de caracteres tendo por sede os olhos, a calosidade frontal, o subcallus e a face.
A new species of Haematopota (Diptera, Tabanidae) of «tumidicornis group» is described, for which the name H. sofalensis n. sp. is proposed. This entity, that constitutes the first of the mencioned group to be pointed out at Mozambique, shows great afnities regarding the species H. obscura Loew, 1857 and H. peusi Oldroyd, 1952, from which it may be distinguished by a certain number of characters localized at the eyes, the frontal callus, the subcallus na the face.
