dc.description.abstractProponho neste ensaio uma leitura do romance A Origem (1958), principal obra da escritora portuguesa Graça Pina de Morais, através da análise de sua figura central, João Vasco. A investigação do movimento de regresso à origem revela os fatores que concorrem para a construção de um ser de exceção, igualmente destinado à poesia e ao tédio, às alturas e aos abismos, à semelhança da imagem mítica do poeta decadente. Daí a aproximação que faço, incitado pela epígrafe, entre João e a personagem poética de Só, de António Nobre, sobretudo no que diz respeito ao tratamento dado ao tema da infância, e também o breve contraponto com a personagem de duas novelas autobiográficas de Irene Lisboa. No romance, parcialmente organizado como romance de formação, a infância surge como reforço de uma imagem mitificada de poeta, fase da vida em que já se manifestam as qualidades invulgares próprias de uma casta. Reconstruída pela memória, a infância ganha contornos irreais: é a matriz sentimental, espiritual e estética, tempo de plenitude ou paraíso perdido do adulto exilado. I propose in this essay a reading of the novel A Origem (1958), the main work of the Portuguese writer Graça Pina de Morais, through the analysis of its central figure, João Vasco. The investigation of the movement back to the origin reveals the factors that contribute to the construction of an exceptional being, equally destined for poetry and boredom, for heights and abysses, akin to the mythical image of the decadent poet. Hence the connection I establish, prompted by the epigraph, between João and the poetic character from Só by António Nobre, especially regarding the treatment of the theme of childhood, and also the brief counterpoint with the character from two autobiographical novellas by Irene Lisboa. In the novel, partially structured as a bildungsroman, childhood emerges as a reinforcement of a mythicized image of the poet, a life phase in which the unusual qualities of a caste already manifest. Reconstructed by memory, childhood takes on unreal contours: it is the sentimental, spiritual, and aesthetic matrix, a time of plenitude or lost paradise for the exiled adult.en
