Study purpose: This research aims to identify the success factors that can help companies manage the alliances they may be involved in, along their lifecycle. Relevance / originality: In order to determine the factors that can help companies achieve better results in their alliances, the literature was reviewed by taking the theoretical perspectives into consideration to have a better overview and get more comprehensive results. Methodology / approach: In this research, a comprehensive literature review is done by considering related theoretical perspectives and the main success factors in three main steps of strategic alliance which are formation, operational and evaluation phase are extracted. Main results: In different stages of alliance lifecycle, the critical success factors were determined; 6 in alliance formation phase, 8 in alliance operational phase and 2 in alliance evaluation phase. Theoretical / methodological contributions: This research categorized the critical success factors in 3 stages of strategic alliances using a comprehensive literature review and considering theoretical perspectives. Social / management contributions: The results of this research can contribute companies to achieve better results in their strategic alliances by taking success factors in to consideration during the alliance lifecycle.
