dc.description.abstract"Adaptive behaviour relies on the appropriate response to information received from a variety of environmental sources. The social environment provides individuals with the opportunity to gather and use information resulting from cues or signals provided by the same or different species. In the context of predator-prey interactions, individuals use information from the environment to perceive whether there is an imminent predator threat. Information on predator threats can be detected directly by the individual, and/or by observing the behaviour of others. Regardless of the source of information, making correct decisions about what defensive behaviour to adopt is essential for animal survival. (...)"pt_PT
