O projeto estará centrado na exploração do conceito de ‘natureza’ e na identificação das suas implicações na antropologia humeana. Além de fixar tão rigorosamente quanto possível o conceito de ‘natureza’ no horizonte da antropologia humeana, estão em causa dois objetivos. O primeiro é analisar as implicações da impressão – causa única das ideias e princípio “seguro” do conhecimento da natureza – na conceção humeana do ser do homem; o segundo é examinar o modo como Hume concebe a identidade ou o ‘sujeito’ humano (‘eu’). Mais globalmente, o que guia o projeto é a questão de saber em que medida a epistemologia de Hume determina a sua antropologia e as consequências que dela derivam.
My project will concentrate on the investigation of the concept of “nature” and the identification of its implications in Humean anthropology. Apart from defining the concept of “nature” as rigorously as possible in the area of Humean anthropology, there are two points to explore. One, is to analyse the implications of impression – sole cause of ideas and “sure” origin of the knowledge of nature – in the Humean conception of man’s being; the second point is to examine the way in which Hume conceives identity or the human subject (“I”). Looked at on an overall basis, what is steering this project is the desire to know to what extent Hume’s epistemology determines his anthropology and the consequences deriving therefrom.
