| dc.description.abstract | In the last decades, we have seen the emergence of festive invention as a factor of sustainable development in rural contexts, associated to the dissemination and promotion of cultural products and practices, which express different motivations. In Portugal and Spain, the relation between festivals, music and sustainable development has become an object of study, drawing on musical celebrations that allow for the creation of informal networks and participatory models among cultural agents, musicians and community members. With this text, I intend to question the phenomenon of festive invention in Baixo Alentejo as a strategy for sustainable development focusing on Mértola’s Islamic Festival and Barrancos' "Noche Flamenca". In my analysis I take into account the motivations and impact of festivals organized and promoted by municipalities and cultural agents, in the construction of possible futures. | en |
