RESUMO - Objetivos: Este estudo transversal teve como objetivo caracterizar a adesão dos utentes aos
medicamentos genéricos, bem como identificar fatores que influenciam tal adesão.
Procedimentos metodológicos: Este estudo foi realizado de outubro de 2011 a junho de 2012.
A amostra foi composta por 375 indivíduos, com idade igual ou superior a 18 anos. Definiu-se
como instrumento de recolha de dados um questionário, que incluiu variáveis sociodemográficas
e de adesão aos medicamentos genéricos, ao qual os indivíduos responderam
voluntariamente.
Resultados: Dos 375 entrevistados, apenas 1,3% (n = 5) nunca ouviram falar em medicamentos
genéricos. Verifica-se que dos meios que informaram sobre a existência de
medicamentos genéricos, o médico e a farmácia são os que mais se destacam, com 69,7%
(n = 258) e 66,2% (n = 245), respetivamente. Dos 292 (78,9%) indivíduos que já compraram
medicamentos genéricos, 64,6% (n = 188) adquiriram tais medicamentos com receita médica.
Dos 78 (21,1%) indivíduos que nunca compraram medicamentos genéricos, 39,7% (n = 31)
referem como causa o facto de o médico não prescrever este tipo de fármacos e 24,4% (n = 19)
referem não terem confiança nos medicamentos genéricos.
Conclusão: A caracterização da adesão aos medicamentos genéricos contribui não só para o
conhecimento da evolução do consumo destes medicamentos, como também para analisar
o impacto das medidas que têm sido tomadas em Portugal, para incentivar e promover o
consumo dos medicamentos genéricos, têm sobre a população em geral.

A questionnaire was used as an instrument of data collection that included socio-demographic and adherence to generic drugs variables, to which individuals responded voluntarily. Results: From 375 respondents, only 1.3% (n = 5) never heard of generic drugs. It is seen that the means that have reported the existence of generic drugs, the doctor and the pharmacy are the ones that stand out the most, with 69.7% (n = 258) and 66.2% (n = 245) respectively. From the 292 (78.9%) individuals who already bought generic drugs, 64.6% (n = 188) acquired such drugs using medical. From the 78 (21.1%) individuals who had never bought generic drugs, 39.7% (n = 31) reported that the reason was the absence of generic drugs prescription by the doctor and 24.4% (n = 19) reported having no confidence in generic drugs. Conclusion: The characterization of adhesion to generic drugs contributes not only to the knowledge of the evolution of the consumption of these drugs, but also to analyze the impact of the measures that have been taken in Portugal, to encourage and promote the consumption of MG have on the population.
