Resumo(s)

Detailed mineralogical and geochemical studies (μ-XRD, μ-XRF, SEM-EDS, LA-ICP-MS) were carried out on sauropod teeth from the Upper Jurassic of the central sector of the Lusitanian Basin. μ-XRD revealed the consistent mineralogical composition of the samples (hydroxyapatite), and μ-XRF confirmed that the chemical composition of the teeth is dominated by Ca and P, with minor concentrations of Fe, Mg, Mn, Al, and K. SEM imaging revealed higher porosity in the dentine compared to the enamel, making it less resistant to post-depositional chemical changes resulting from interaction with formational fluids. LA-ICP-MS maps of trace elements distribution in the teeth allowed us to delimit areas where the original chemical composition is altered due to diagenetic processes, and areas where is preserved the original geochemical signature.
