dc.description.abstractEm Cabo Verde, o carácter insular do território, os diferentes tempos e modos do povoamento das várias ilhas e a diáspora tricontinental – colonial e pós colonial –produziram uma grande variedade de expressões culturais, dificultando uma qualquer formulação uniformizadora da identidade nacional. Esta diversidade cultural e as relações de força no interior da sociedade insular têm estado na origem das diferentes versões da nação, algumas profundamente divergentes entre si. As sucessivas gerações de elites intelectuais e políticas têm rebuscado, no repertório cultural do arquipélago, os conteúdos mais conformes às suas perspectivas e estratégias de poder, elegendo-os como os referentes da construção da nação. In Cape Verde, the insular nature of the territory, the different times and ways in which the various islands were settled and the tricontinental diaspora – colonial and post-colonial – produced a wide variety of cultural expressions, making any unifying enunciation of national identity difficult. This cultural diversity and the power relations within the insular society have been at the origin of the different versions of the nation, some of which are profoundly divergent from each other. Successive generations of intellectual and political elites have searched, in the archipelago's cultural repertoire, for the contents most in line with their perspectives and power strategies, choosing them as the referents of nation building.en
