ABSTRACT - Introduction: For a long time, healthcare systems have not considered users' perceptions of health outcomes. To analyse the impact of shoulder surgery, traditional outcomes must be complemented with user reports. The object of this study was to evaluate the health outcomes of shoulder surgery in terms of quality of life, health perception, pain, and functionality. Methods: A quantitative, retrospective cohort study was carried out, with telephonic assessment of the pre- and post-operative periods. Clinical data, EQ-5Q-5D and ASES score were used. The population (n=116) of patients who underwent shoulder surgery in 2024 at a Local Health Unit in Portugal was represented. Reports were collected by means of telephone interviews (n=27). A descriptive and inferential analysis of the sample was performed to detect statistically significant relationships. Results: Health-related quality of life had a positive average variation of 0.38 (SD 0.27). Health perception improved by an average of 15.7% (SD 16.49). Pain decreased by an average of 5.04 units (SD=3.92). Function improved by an average of 15.18 units (SD 9.34). The ASES score improved by an average of 52.35% (SD=32.73). No statistically significant relationships between variables were detected. Conclusion: Clinically relevant improvements were observed in the outcomes assessed, regardless of socio-demographic or clinical conditions. Such results demonstrate the positive impact of shoulder surgery, highlighting the importance of integrating PROMs into clinical practice and hospital management practices.
