- In areas where trypanosomiasis is endemic, where systematic screening and treatment of the infected population has been carried out, significant reductions in the infection rate have been observed, demonstrating the progress made in treatment. However, the discoveries that have crowned the efforts of researchers have raised problems that still present us with unsolved questions. It has been found that the treatment of each patient in some cases is difficult to adapt to the general therapeutic standards chosen for a given community, although this is currently more important than the needs of the African continent, where the mass treatment of patients has forced the standardization of therapeutic regimens with drawbacks that only became apparent later, particularly the emergence and increase of chemoresistant strains.
