The following dissertation explores hybrid organizations through an institutional logics’
perspective, addressing research questions relating to the development of a social enterprise
ecosystem, the hybridization of nonprofit organizations, and its consequences on stakeholder
evaluations. By deploying both inductive and deductive methodologies, all three essays contribute
to expanding our understanding of hybrid organizing and have important implications for research,
policymakers, business schools, and advocates of these organizations.
