" Alkylation of DNA nucleobases is a common modification of the genome that results in formation of the so-called DNA adducts. Structurally, some of these adducts are N-heterocyclic carbene precursors, whose reactivity is scarcely studied. The work reported in this thesis is devoted to the synthesis of nucleoside-based NHC complexes based on palladium and platinum and to the study of their activity as anticancer agents. "
