A (In) visibilização da mulher negra em Portugal - a dupla discriminação silenciada

Abstract

Sendo residente em Portugal há mais de oito anos, sempre me inquietou o facto de quase inexistirem na academia portuguesa mulheres negras nos cursos de licenciaturas, nos mestrados, nos doutoramentos ou nos pós-doutoramentos. Os espaços onde vemos mulheres negras na academia, e não só, são espaços de trabalhos subalternizados, onde as mulheres negras trabalham maioritariamente nas limpezas. Embora comecem a surgir na academia portuguesa mulheres interessadas em estudar o feminismo negro de forma mais aprofundada, são poucos os trabalhos académicos encontrados em Portugal com esta referência. Há alguns trabalhos que analisam a mulher negra na comunicação, nas artes e na cultura e pouco mais que isto. Falta ainda falar sobre a realidade vivida no dia-a-dia e ouvir as vozes que estão silenciadas há muito. Além disso, temos a perceção de que em Portugal o número de negros residentes é uma pequena parte no todo da população, comparativamente ao número de brancos, apesar de inexistirem dados estatísticos que o comprovem (INE). As teorias da interseccionalidade, da dominação masculina e da identidade de género que podem ajudar-nos a explicar algumas posturas, atitudes e comportamentos que são tão difíceis de serem desconstruídos como o racismo, a discriminação e o sexismo, serão a base para a interpretação empírica deste trabalho. A razão que me move a escolher a mulher negra como figura principal desta dissertação é o facto de a perceber vivenciando na primeira pessoa, enquanto mulher e negra, além de tentar perceber de que forma a sociedade e o Estado português pretendem minorar a invisibilização e discriminação destas mulheres, criando condições de igualdade a todos os níveis (Henriques, 2018). Tentando através deste estudo perceber que outros cargos ocupam em Portugal, qual o seu nível de escolaridade e se este interfere nos cargos, e de que forma. E ainda quais são as mudanças que estas mulheres desejam ver acontecer na sociedade portuguesa. Being a resident in Portugal for more than eight years, I have always been worried about the fact that black women are almost inexistent in the Portuguese Academy among undergraduate, masters, doctorates programmes or among post-doctoral candidates. The spaces where we see black women in the academy, and not only, are the subordinated ones, where black women work mostly in cleanings. Althought it begins to emerge in the Portuguese Academy women interested in studying black feminism in a deeper way, there are few academic works found in Portugal with this reference. There are some works that analyze the black woman in communication, in the arts and culture and little more than this, we still need to talk about the reality lived in the day-to-day, and listen to the voices that are long silted. Furthermore, we have the perception that in Portugal the number of black residents is a small part of the population, compared to the number of whites residents, although there are no statistical data that support this asymmetry (INE). The theories of intersectionality, male domination and gender identity that help explain some postures, attitudes and behaviors that are so difficult to deconstructed as racism, discrimination and sexism, will be the basis for the empirical interpretation of this work. Thereby, the reason that lead me to choose the black woman as the main figure of this dissertation is based in the fact that I personally perceive her experiencing in the first person, as a black woman, besides trying to understand how society and the Portuguese State intend to undermine the invisibilization and discrimination of these women by creating conditions of equality at all levels (Henriques, 2018). Trying through with this study to understand what other positions these women occupy in Portugal, what is their level of education and whether it interferes in job positions, and also intend to get to know what changes these women wish to see happen in the portuguese society.
