Representações de sofrimento no trabalho: As denúncias dos trabalhadores de call-centers em Portugal

Abstract

Os call-centers empregam muitas dezenas de milhares de trabalhadores, encontram-se espalhados de Norte a Sul do país, e são hoje a linha da frente no apoio ao cliente de grandes empresas e instituições públicas. Através de reportagens e denúncias escritas, são do conhecimento comum relatos de experiências de sofrimento e injustiças nestes locais de trabalho. O nosso problema de investigação é: em que medida, e com que conteúdos, está a ser gerada uma cultura ou subcultura ocupacional de call-center, focada no sofrimento no trabalho? Quais as representações dominantes nesse tipo de discursos? Que situações sociais no trabalho estão associadas ao sofrimento? Usando entrevistas e depoimentos escritos de denúncia dessas situações, analisámos os conteúdos emocionais das denúncias nos relatos sobre as condições e relações de trabalho e suas implicações na vida pessoal e social dos trabalhadores.

Call centers employ many tens of thousands of workers, are scattered from north to south of the country, and are today the front line in customer support for large companies and public institutions. Through written reports and denunciations, reports of experiences of suffering and injustice in these places of work are common knowledge. Our research problem is: to what extent, and with what content, is an occupational call-center culture or subculture focused on suffering at work? What are the dominant representations in this type of discourse? What social situations at work are associated with suffering? Using interviews and written statements denouncing these situations, we intend to analyze the emotional contents of the denunciations in the reports about the conditions and labor relations and their implications in the personal and social life of the workers.
