O lugar da História na livraria de D. Teodósio I, duque de Bragança

Abstract

The library of D. Teodósio I ((†1563), 5th duke of Bragança, was the largest aristocratic library in Portugal in the Renaissance, and one of the larger in Europe in its time. The inventory of the books is part of the inventory of the household of D. Teodósio, made after his death, in 1563. After a brief overview on the library as a whole, we will center our attention on the History books. Since the Middle Ages, History had its own and relevant place in aristocratic libraries, as it happens, along with Theology and Law, in this Portuguese Renaissance library. A livraria do 5º duque de Bragança, D. Teodósio (†1563) foi a maior livraria nobiliárquica portuguesa do Renascimento, e uma das maiores da Europa do tempo. O inventário da livraria integra o inventário de todo o património da Casa do duque, elaborado após a sua morte, em 1563. Apresentaremos, em visão panorâmica, os conteúdos da livraria no seu conjunto, para nos centrarmos nos livros de História, desde sempre matéria presente nas livrarias régias e senhoriais desde a Idade Média, e que assumem, com a Teologia e o Direito, uma expressão cimeira na livraria ducal.
