Opções do tradutor - entre a teoria e a prática

Abstract

A experiência do tradutor profissional é bastante relevante para a execução de uma tradução de qualidade. O estágio curricular do Mestrado em Tradução de Alemão é uma óptima oportunidade para experimentar e verificar a eficácia dos conhecimentos teóricos aplicados no domínio da tradução profissional. O presente relatório analisa alguns aspectos da actividade do tradutor em ambiente de trabalho, baseando-se num registo de apontamentos efectuado diariamente ao longo do estágio. Através de uma análise das observações anotadas no local de estágio, é tratada a questão de saber quais são os tipos de fases e de processos envolvidos na produção da tradução e quais os recursos utilizados pelo tradutor, sobretudo a nível informático. Em seguida, é verificada a aplicabilidade teórica de um modelo funcionalista de análise de texto relevante para a tradução. A partir desse ponto, o relatório debruça-se sobre algumas dificuldades a nível linguístico que podem surgir na tradução técnica de Alemão para Português. Por último, é discutida a posição do tradutor profissional e o estatuto do tradutor técnico, confrontando diversas teorias da literatura tradutológica com o conhecimento adquirido na prática. A tradução de qualidade requer muita análise, pesquisa e reflexão sobre os textos de partida e de chegada, a vários níveis. A feitura de uma boa tradução pressupõe formação linguística, cultural e técnica de ambas as línguas exigindo, inevitavelmente, do tradutor muito conhecimento e manejo informático. O domínio de competências, bem como a consciência das fases, dos processos e dos agentes envolvidos na produção de uma tradução de qualidade implica muita responsabilidade do tradutor profissional.

The experience of a professional translator is crucial for the generation of high-quality text translations. The curriculum of the practical training master degree in translation (CPTMD) in German language is a great opportunity to effectively practice and apply theoretical knowledge in the domain of the professional translator. The current report investigated some challenges of the translator´s profession based on the respective tasks of the manual translation process that were cataloged on a daily basis during the CPTMD. By means of an analysis of the observations during the CPTMD we examined which kind of phases and processes are involved in the production of a translation and which resources are required by the translator with an emphasis on the computational level. Further, we investigated the theoretical application of a functional model of text analysis relevant for the translation and we explain the most important challenges on the linguistic level which may arise in the technical translation from German to Portuguese. Finally, we discuss the position of the professional translator, as well as the position of the technical translator by reviewing current theories of translation studies and the job requirements of a professional translator. The quality of a translation demands intense analysis, research and reflection of the source and the target text at multiple levels. An accurate translation requires a profound linguistic, cultural and technical knowledge of both languages and unavoidably demands software skills from the translator. The mastering of the technical skill sets and the understanding of the cultural contexts, as well as the awareness of the phases, processes and the persons that are involved in the production of an accurate high-quality translation represent the versatile requirements of the professional translator.
