O Feminino na Obra Narrativa de Lídia Jorge

Abstract

Numa época em que é dada à mulher a possibilidade de se afirmar, em que se fala de igualdade de géneros, vários são os entraves que aquela encontra para a sua libertação plena. Lídia Jorge apercebe-se do lento processo de maturação que as mulheres e as sociedades têm vindo a registar e tem noção de quão difícil é a mudança ao nível das consciências de quem detém o poder, empenhando-se, assim, numa missão social de conferir credibilidade à mulher. Mnémosine, Xerazade, Penélope, Eva, vários são os nomes femininos lendários que podemos atribuir às personagens femininas de Lídia Jorge. A importância dada à memória e à palavra, à espera e à transgressão ajuda a definir as personagens que a autora privilegia e que são os faróis das suas histórias. A passividade, a fragilidade, o sentimento maternal, a emotividade e o culto da imagem são atributos do feminino que percorrem tais mulheres. Mas estará a apologia do feminino escrita nas entrelinhas dos textos de Lídia Jorge? Esta investigação assenta no estudo da obra narrativa desta escritora, publicada entre 1980 e 2014, centrado na problemática do feminino. Partindo da análise dos caracteres enunciados no parágrafo anterior, teorizados por Lígia Amâncio, deparámo- -nos com outros que se lhes opõem: a coragem, a autonomia, a racionalidade, a segurança, a liderança, por exemplo, que são apanágio do masculino e que se encontram, de forma muito vincada, nas personagens-mulheres da obra jorgiana. Verificámos que a figura feminina é privilegiada nas escolhas da autora, quer como narradoras quer como suas protagonistas, colocando-a num patamar superior ao do homem pela sua pluralidade e completude, pelos papéis de comando que assume, pelo afastamento relativamente aos cânones femininos, por aquilo que lhe permite deixar a sua marca na sociedade. Através das personagens escolhidas, do tempo e do espaço narrativos que servem de cenários às diegéses, fica clara a intenção da obra de Lídia Jorge de mostrar que aquilo que é feminino pode ser encontrado em homens e mulheres, que estas se movimentam em tempos e em espaços próprios do feminino, mas que o realce é dado às que ultrapassam a pequenez do epíteto, que vivem do tempo da memória para construir o seu crescimento e que partem dos espaços interiores para conquistarem a autonomia que o exterior lhes traz. Denise Jodelet, Judith Butler, Françoise Héritier, Elisabeth Badinter, Pierre Bourdieu e Isabel Allegro de Magalhães são alguns dos nomes centrais do nosso estudo. Saindo da esfera da dominação masculina, apontada por Bourdieu, as personagens femininas de Lídia Jorge apresentam-se fortes e caminham de forma autónoma num universo de homens e mulheres, levando-nos à conclusão de que a obra narrativa jorgiana faz a apologia da mulher, não por aquilo que ela possui de feminino, mas naquilo em que se afasta do feminino.

At a time in which the woman is given the opportunity to stand for her rights, when it comes to gender equality, there are several obstacles still hinder her full liberation. Lídia Jorge understands the slow process of maturation that women and societies have been experiencing and she is aware of how difficult it is to change the consciousness of those who rule, striving thus in her social mission to grant women credibility. Mnemosyne, Scheherazade, Penelope, Eva, these are some legendary female names that can be assigned to Lídia Jorge’s female characters. The importance given to memory and word, wait and transgression helps define the characters that the author favors and which are the headlights of her stories. The passivity, the weakness, the maternal feeling, the emotion and the cult of the image are feminine attributes that run through these women. But is the apology of the feminine written between the lines in Lídia Jorge’s texts? This research is based on the narrative work of this writer, published between 1980 and 2014, that is focused on the female issue. Analysing the features listed in the previous paragraph, studied by Lígia Amâncio, we have found others opposing them: courage, autonomy, rationality, security, leadership, among others, that despite being a prerogative of the male are deeply bound to Lídia Jorge’s female characters. We found that the female figure is privileged in the author's choices, either as narrators or as their protagonists, placing it at a higher level than that of man due to its plurality and completeness, the roles of command that she takes on, eschewing the traditional female concept, what allows women to leave make their mark in society. Through the chosen characters, time and narrative space that serve as scenarios to diegéses, it is clear Lídia Jorge’ intention to show that the feminine can be found in both men and women, that these women move within a time and a space that is feminine, thoug the highlight is given to those who go beyond the narrowness of the label, living on the time of the memory to build their growth and setting out from the inner spaces to conquer the autonomy that the outside brings them. Denise Jodelet, Judith Butler, Françoise Héritier, Elisabeth Badinter, Pierre Bourdieu and Isabel Allegro de Magalhães are some of the keys of our research. Stepping out of the male dominance pointed to by Bourdieu, Lídia Jorge’s female characters are strong and walk autonomously in a universe of men and women, leading us to the conclusion that her narrative work is the apology of women, not for their features, but for what moves them away from the female.
