Resumo: This project focuses on one of the many aspects of a localization engineer’s role through the development of two different software applications aimed at professional translators: CAT Nav and CAT Pal. Both applications aid in the process of searching for the terminology, with the first one streamlining the browsing process, while the second serves to create and edit term bases. As a theoretical background for the development of both apps, this paper will also explore translation technology and its history through recounts of translators and other scholars such as Paillet, O’Hagan, Pym, and Somers. Through the dissection of CAT tools, namely memoQ, we will also be analyzing how these tools work, how external apps may enhance them, including the apps developed herein, and their impact on the translation industry and its continued development.
