Resumo: Amazon’s expansion led it to places unlikely to be reached by an online retailer, including physical stores. The firm’s diversification history cues us over the logic around these decisions. Despite the current excitement around SVoD services by customers and competing firms alike, in the early 2000sthe prospects of investments in this new market was far less evident. Amazon, at the time just an online retailer, was one of the first companies to bet on this industry and today it reaps its benefits. This paper analyses strategic reasons for Amazon to diversify into streaming as well as its future prospects.
