| Abstract: | This work project highlights the challenges that Volkswagen is facing in relation to industry trends and ongoing market disruption by innovators. Volkswagen was able to build a competitive advantage in the traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) industry. However, innovative companies are on their way to disrupt Volkswagen’s core business and challenge its competitive advantage. Volkswagen already introduced its “Accelerate” strategy to overcome the challenges arising from innovators and industry trends. It is Volkswagen’s goal to sustain its competitive advantage in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
