Abstract: | The movie No, released in 2012, is considered in this paper as a means to reflect not only on the movie narrative (that is, its content itself: the advertising campaign previous to the 1988 plebiscite, when the Chileans decided not to perpetuate Pinochet's dictatorship), but also on the role of humor in the connection between the 'society of the spectacle' and the consumer society in Latin American politics, especially from the 1970s onwards, regarding the problems posed in the post dictatorial times. In No, director Pablo Larraín discusses topics such as ‘political emptying’ and the conditions of disengagement - in this case, by means of the idea of 'humorous society'. |
