Abstract: Emerging digital technologiesforce organizations across all industries torethink their business models and organizational structures. Digital Transformation(DT)is a hot topic in business, yet academic literature has understudied the phenomenon.This study defines DTas a fundamental organizational changeand identifies a positive relationship between organizational size, scope and competition and the decision to start the process of DT. It finds, however, that these same factors become the biggest hurdles to successful organizational change andidentifies the importance of specific leadership behaviorsto overcome the challenges and increase the probability of successful DT projects.
