Abstract: TheaimofthisworkprojectistogetbettersenseofwhatmovestheTermStructureand,consequently,theslopeoftheYieldCurve.Todoso,wefirstpresentthemostcommoneconomictheoriesthatattemptatexplainingwhatdrivesinvestors’expectationsandtheshapeoftheYieldCurve.FollowingtheresearchofKurmannandOtrok(2013),wethenanalysetheimpactofanewsshockonbothmacroeconomicandmonetarypolicyvariablesusingaVectorAutoregression(VAR)identificationmodelandtheimpulseresponsefunctions(IRFs)oftheaforementionedvariablesintheVAR.Afterhavingcarriedoutthisanalysis,thefinallessonis:newsshockaboutfuturegrowthofTotalFactorProductivity(TFP)determinesaconstantdropinInflationaswellasFederalFundRateswhile,atthesametime,increasingtheslopeoftheTermStructure,andtheseresultscouldbeusedtoforecastapossiblefuturescenarioforthe Euro Area.
