As preocupações artísticas com o Silêncio e o Vazio alicerçam numa edificação de princípios milenares. À medida que a arte tentou emancipar-se do vazio e suas representações, direccionando-se aos extremos absolutos, como o minimalismo ou o conceptualismo, existe uma busca de um princípio organizador superior da arte. Este projecto tem como objectivo analisar este percurso e o ano zero contínuo em que a sociedade ocidental estagnou em termos de vanguardas artísticas e correntes filosóficas, sem que isso simbolize um retrocesso. Atingiu-se um ponto de maturação pelas possibilidades concedidas à sociedade, sendo impossível ignorar as últimas etapas da produção artística: recriar o silêncio na arte e admirar o vazio pelo vazio. Através de obras de artista/testemunhos e leitura crítica de bibliografia, problematizar-se-ão estas dimensões, a par da intemporalidade de certas qualidades, percorrendo movimentos e estéticas que confluem para a mesma necessidade em registos vários na História da Arte e na Filosofia.
The Silence and the Void have a long and detailed existence throughout millennia, understood through their several meanings to humanity. As art has emancipated itself from the void towards the absolutes, such as minimalism and conceptualism, it began a search for the roots of the artistic system responsible for organizing forms. This thesis will analyze the continuous year zero in which occidental society has stagnated at, while evaluating the importance of silence and emptiness, both as artistic representation and as philosophical concepts. By having a thorough examination of the written documents that support it and the works of the artists that have dealt within these two domains considered together, we aim to cover the aesthetic theory behind them and also their artistic manifestations.
