Nesta dissertação vamos investigar a construção moderna do Selvagem, na forma como se
estabeleceu enquanto uma fronteira dinâmica do civilizado, articulando-se como categoria política e
estética. Fá-lo-emos situando-o na discussão em torno da excepção, vendo como opera enquanto
ameaça no estabelecer de categorias colectivas e na construção da subjectividade moderna. Vamos
então analisar como nesta ameaça o mito da fronteira americana se afirma como organismo, e como,
influenciada pelo discurso das ciências naturais, esta fronteira vai definir uma vitalidade, uma “natureza
imanente” que se revela nos territórios inóspitos. É esta imanência do Selvagem que determina
a “natureza humana” na discussão que assenta as fundações do Estado moderno. Articulando-o
então como um “mal interior”, veremos o papel da linguagem na gestão da fronteira da subjectividade,
vendo também como a partir dela se articula a saída para esta estrutura subjectiva, no habitar
da fronteira e na construção de uma subjectividade relacional
This dissertation will investigate the modern construction of the Wild, in the way it was established as a dynamic frontier for the civilized, as a politic and aesthetic category. We will depart from the political exception, seeing how it is articulated as threat in the establishment of collective categories and in the construction of modern subjectivity. We will them analyze how through this threat the American frontier myth is proposed as an organism, and how, under the influence of natural sciences, this frontier will define a form of vitality, an “immanent nature” revealed in inhospitable territories. It is this immanent wildness that will determine “human nature” in the founding discussion of the modern State. Articulated as an “inner evil”, we will then see the part of language in management of this subjective border, seeing also how through this a relational subjectivity is constructed, in the inhabiting of the border, as an exit for this subjective structure
