Antroponímia na Língua Ngangela

Abstract

A língua Ngangela é uma das línguas angolanas de origem bantu. Uma das suas unidades, os antropónimos, são afectadas pela variação gráfica. Precisamos de verificar as causas desta variação e propor alguma harmonização. Neste sentido elaborámos uma base de dados antroponímica, com o propósito de facilitar e possibilitar a consulta aos interessados, tentando assim identificar as causas da já referida variação. Nisto, achamos que o maior peso recai sobre a influência da língua Portuguesa que exerce sobre as línguas bantu faladas em Angola. Como é de conhecimento geral, os antropónimos não são apenas parte integrante de uma língua, como também são parte importante da cultura de um povo. A prática denominativa, apesar de ser cultural, é regida por normas estaduais. Para a elaboração deste trabalho foi necessária a consulta da lei angolana, mas concretamente no que diz respeito à composição do nome e de questões ligadas ao ambiente sociocultural Vangangela e aferir a sintonia dos antropónimos com a lei e com a cultura, o seu habitat natural. Em relação à conformidade com a lei e com o costume Vangangela observou-se que existe uma margem de desconformidade relevante. Os motivos que nos levaram à elaboração deste trabalho prendem-se com a qualidade de informação veiculada pelos antropónimos nos documentos em que ocorrem e com a sua adequação à lei e à tradição Vangangela. Acreditamos que os resultados da nossa pesquisa facilitariam o trabalho das pessoas que lidam diariamente com os antropónimos Ngangela, sobretudo a Conservatória do Registo Civil de Menongue e os cartórios religiosos desta cidade, assim como outras entidades público-privadas interessadas nesta matéria. Com este exercício esperamos ainda que se possa contribuir para os estudos que têm vindo a ser desenvolvidos na língua Ngangela.

Ngangela is one of the Bantu languages spoken in Angola. One of its units ― anthroponyms ― is affected by graphic variation. Accordingly, we felt the need to identify the causes for these variations and suggest some level of standardization. For that purpose, we have created a database of names in order to facilitate and enable access to those who are interested in these matters, while at the same time trying to identify the causes of the aforementioned variation. We have come to the conclusion that the burden falls on the influence that the Portuguese language has on the Bantu languages spoken in Angola. As is well known, anthroponyms are not only an integral part of a language, but also a key element of the culture of a people. However, although cultural, the naming practice is ruled by state laws. To conduct this research, we had to consult Angolan law, in particular the provisions concerning the composition of names and issues tied with the Vangangela sociocultural environment so that we could assess the alignment of anthroponyms with the law and culture, their natural habitat. Regarding compliance with the law and the Vangangela custom, we found that there is a relevant nonconformity. The reasons that have led us to conduct this research have to do with the quality of the information conveyed by anthroponyms in the documents where they occur and their adequacy to the law and the Vangangela traditions. We believe the results of our research can facilitate the work of those that deal with Ngangela anthroponyms on a daily basis, especially at the Civil Registry Offices in Menongue and the religious registries of the town, as well as other public and private organizations that may take an interest in this matter. With this exercise, we also hope to contribute to the studies that have been made on the Ngangela language.
