A presente dissertação pretende relacionar duas importantes temáticas na atualidade,
migrações e religião. Nas sociedades contemporâneas, que se caraterizam por serem
cada vez mais diversificadas a nível étnico, cultural, social e também religioso, para que
muito contribuíram as migrações, a integração dos imigrantes, muitas vezes
percecionados como o “outro”, não pode ser um aspeto descurado pelas ciências
sociais.
Dentro deste quadro, o principal objetivo desta dissertação prende-se com perceber
qual o papel da religião para a integração dos imigrantes. A partir do estudo de caso
dos muçulmanos guineenses na região de Lisboa procurou-se compreender de que
forma é que este grupo adaptou, ou não, as suas crenças e práticas religiosas ao novo
contexto, onde o Islão é assumidamente uma religião minoritária. Por outro lado,
procedeu-se a uma análise a três níveis distintos. Um primeiro nível de análise diz
respeito à forma como o Estado trata, por força da legislação existente, a questão da
igualdade e liberdade religiosas. Um segundo nível prende-se com analisar a
comunidade religiosa, quer em termos das instituições que a compõem e o seu papel
para a integração dos seus membros, quer em termos de solidariedade entre
indivíduos. Por fim, procurou-se também aferir de que forma a sociedade maioritária é
percecionada por este grupo em termos de relacionamento e sentimento de
discriminação.
This dissertation aims to relate two important themes nowadays, migration and religion. In contemporary societies, characterized by being increasingly diversified at ethnic, cultural, social and even religious levels, to which a lot contributed migration, integration of immigrants, often viewed as the "other", cannot be an aspect neglected by the social sciences. Within this framework, the main objective of this dissertation relates to perceive the role of religion for the integration of immigrants. From the case study of Guinean Muslims in Lisbon we tried to understand how this group has adapted, or not, their religious beliefs and practices to the new context, where Islam is a minority religion. Moreover, we proceeded to an analysis at three different levels. A first level of analysis refers to the way the state, under the existing legislation, treats the issue of equality and religious freedom. A second level relates to analyze the religious community, both in terms of the institutions that comprise it and its role in the integration of its members, as in terms of solidarity between individuals. Finally, we also tried to comprehend how the majority society is perceived by this group in terms of relationship and sense of discrimination.
