This study explores pathways for the Salzburg region’s tourism sector to transition toward a regenerative model, emphasizing the role of citizen engagement. Employing a four phase methodology aligned with OECD participation guidelines, the research involved interviews, workshops, surveys, and stakeholder consultations. Findings reveal key local concerns – particularly around community integration and cultural preservation – and identify citizen driven initiatives across four themes: Nature, Community, Culture, and Economy. Challenges to implementation include tourist acceptance and economic feasibility. The study offers practical implications for regions seeking regenerative transformation and contributes original insights into region-specific, citizen-informed tourism development strategies.pt_PT
