In August 2024, the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, in Lisbon, closed its doors for rehabilitation work as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) for the cultural sector from the Portuguese Government. At this time of change for all its artistic and administrative bodies, it is essential to get a detailed understanding of the recent heritage of this institution, which is recognised as a national monument and heritage site. Through an internship report in the archive and music documentation sector, I catalogued the operatic audiovisual collection between 1980 and 2024 and reflected on the heritage importance of this archive and its contribution to the history of opera in Portugal over the last 50 years. On the basis of the archival materials, I discuss the two productions of the opera Blimunda, by Azio Corghi and José Saramago, from 1991 and 2022.
