Esta dissertação tem como objetivo analisar o discurso político do Partido Popular Democrático durante o Período Revolucionário Português a partir do jornal do partido, o Povo Livre, de modo a entender quais são os posicionamentos políticos e ideológicos dos partidários da social-democracia durante este período. A partir deste, são selecionados os temas chave da retórica do PPD, partindo do seu enquadramento no espectro político português, de forma a definir a sua posição na Revolução, dando a entender como esta se altera mediante os avanços e recuos das diversas fações envolvidas na mesma. Nestes temas integram-se a disputa entre a legitimidade revolucionária e a legitimidade eleitoral, na qual o PPD opta pela legitimidade eleitoral. A influência da Assembleia Constituinte no processo revolucionário e o papel do PPD na mesma, assumindo como objetivo perceber qual o papel que esta tem nas práticas discursivas do partido. Finalmente são
abordadas as posições dos social-democratas em relação à economia e aos conflitos laborais que atravessam a Revolução. Desta forma, procura-se caracterizar as ações e o discurso do partido de modo a explanar se estes são estanques e a que rigores obedecem, de modo a traçar o percurso do PPD na Revolução.
The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the political discourse of the Partido Popular Democrático during the Portuguese Revolutionary Period, based on the party's newspaper, Povo Livre, in order to understand the political and ideological positions of the supporters of social democracy during this period. From this, the key themes of the PPD's rhetoric are selected, starting from its framework in the Portuguese political spectrum, in order to define its position in the Revolution, showing how it changes through the advances and retreats of the various factions involved in it. These themes include the dispute between revolutionary legitimacy and democratic legitimacy, in which the PPD opts for democratic legitimacy. The influence of the Constituent Assembly on the revolutionary process and the PPD's role in it, with the aim of understanding its role in the party's discursive practices. Finally, the positions of the Social Democrats in relation to the economy and the labour conflicts that crossed the Revolution are addressed. In this way, we try to characterize the party's actions and discourse in order to explain whether they are watertight and what rigors they obey, in order to trace the PPD's path in the Revolution.
